Blow’s music, alongside that of other English Baroque composers, has undergone a significant revival in recent decades, led particularly in England by Anthony Rooley with the Consort of Musicke, and Peter Holman and the Parley of Instruments. The English composer John Blow (1649-1708) was organist at Westminster Abbey, a post he generously passed to his pupil Henry Purcell in 1679, until he resumed the role following Purcell’s untimely death in 1695.
